What is the plan of action when a student in one of my classes tests positive for COVID-19? How will that information be communicated? Should faculty notify the entire class when a student in that class tests positive? What about notifying others? (Added July 15)
All positive COVID-19 tests are reported to the CDC by the local Department of Health or the specific laboratory processing the test. Faculty will be notified if a student in their class tests positive. We are working to determine the specific process. To protect student personal health information, however, faculty will not notify the entire class or post information on social media. Led by staff from the Protect Purdue Health Center, the official contact tracing process will then come into play. This is comprised of a combination of in-person interviews and technology, including asking about the type, the extent and the length of contact to assess risk levels for the contact.
