Expanding Campus Vaccination Efforts
Protect Purdue Summary Report Fall 2021
Immunizing for a Safer Purdue Community
With Purdue using a “personal choice approach” rather than a campuswide mandate, students, faculty and staff had the option to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and upload verification of that status or to submit to weekly testing.

Incentives to Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19

A Willy Wonka-inspired COVID-19 vaccination promotion put $9,992 — the equivalent of a year’s worth of in-state tuition — into the hands of 10 incoming and returning students ahead of the start of the fall semester. The promotion represented a notable cross-section of the academic community among the winners — pharmacy, biology, engineering, computer science, statistics and finance.
News about the surprised winners grabbed strong local, state and even global media attention.

Thousands of Boilermaker faculty and staff joined together to get vaccinated against COVID-19. By taking this public health step, 50 employees were randomly selected for prizes through the Protect Purdue vaccine promotion. Top giveaways included a pair of 2021 football season tickets, two tickets to the men’s 2021 basketball home opener, a reserved parking pass for a year and an annual membership to the Co-Rec.
